“Ifrikya Spirit” is the name of the Algerian band founded by Chakib Bouzidi, it is also the title of an album that showcases the collaboration between Reda Mourah and Chakib Bouzidi. They worked together for a year in 2013 to create compositions, arrangements, and harmonies that complemented the traditional “Gumbri” instrument played by Chakib.

The album features a diverse range of instruments, including acoustic piano, electric keyboards, drums, electric bass, electric guitars, saxophone, traditional vocals and choirs, and a “Soussan” (a soprano “Gumbri”). The album pays tribute to Algeria’s rich musical heritage.

Despite Chakib Bouzidi’s passing in 2022, his legacy lives on through this album, which is a testament to his contribution to the patrimony of Algerian music.
